The DREAM Behind 'Take me Away'
Rarely does a song just fall out from the creative space for a writer. Often it's a labor of love for many months, even years for me. But this song was a different story. It's almost as if the song itself was written before I even awoke, and all I had to do was write it all down.
When I woke from this dream, the song began.
I was dreaming, I was in a busy place like a mall. I was starting to feel overwhelmed by all the people and too many things to do. Then a tall, dark-haired man I respected saw me from afar and came walking toward me. He wrapped his arms around me, and I fully welcomed his embrace. Instantly, I felt relieved. I buried my face in his chest and jacket, and as I stood there being held by him, I could feel a gentle movement begin.
He began to slowly slide me away in that embrace; away from the crowds rolling around us, into a hidden space. I knew he was moving me, but it didn’t feel forced or unnatural. I just slid easily across the space and around the corner to another room.
Briefly, I thought this could be considered inappropriate, but I chose not to care because I just wanted to stay in that embrace forever. It felt so safe, so strong, so secure, so needed—something I had longed for so long but couldn’t get from anyone else in my life. I felt recognized, appreciated, deeply enjoyed, and loved.
The safety of this moment was overwhelming. I felt he drew me away because he knew I needed it, but also because he did as well. He wanted to spend this time with me. He wanted to speak to me intimately about his heart and share his secrets, his wisdom. The entire time, though my face was buried, I could clearly see everything happening around us and all the stress was completely gone.
