STORY behind the SONG
The song "Faith Can Still Move Mountains" was born on a camping trip at an Alberta lake with my family. As I walked the trails, I was surrounded by trees that seemed to whisper of childhood days, I couldn’t help but be reminded of that wide-open feeling I once had. Back then, life felt limitless, full of possibility. The world seemed wide and my dreams stretched as far as I could see, undisturbed by the worries that come with age. I had so much faith, believing that God could do anything. I had no idea of the struggles and heartaches that lay ahead.
But life is difficult. It doesn’t take long before the reality of hardship sets in. I’ve lost my dad to disease, my physical freedom because of constant pain due to car accidents, and I’ve had friends who once walked beside me betray my trust. There were times when my children’s actions hurt me deeply, and the dysfunction I experienced in childhood shaped so much of who I became, and I didn’t always like my responses. The road wasn’t always easy, and recovery and forgiveness were hard work.
As children, we see life through rose-colored glasses, but with each passing year, those glasses can fog up, scratch, and the world becomes a harder place. Yet, through it all, we can still see that golden thread.
In the midst of all this, among those Alberta Trembling Aspen, I heard this song—it is a reminder to myself, and to anyone who hears it, that no matter how difficult life gets, faith can STILL move mountains.
In the song, I tell the story of a little girl with pigtails, full of dreams, standing at the beginning of her journey. That’s me. The world felt wide, the path ahead full of possibilities, and she sowed seeds of hope and faith freely. But as time passes, the trail narrows. She makes a home, starts a family, builds a life—but the vastness of her dreams feels limited by the demands and losses of motherhood, marriage, and the constraints of being stuck in the same town she didn’t plan to grow old in. But through the golden thread God weaves through her story, her faith continues to grow. She says yes, even when things seem impossible, and continues to walk the path.
As the song unfolds, it reflects the reality of growing older, of seeing dreams shrink as the world places limits on what’s possible. But God, in His faithfulness, keeps moving mountains—not always the ones she thought needed to be moved. But looking back, she can see He paints a much better picture than she could have, and now stands tall like those Aspens, glinting with the golden thread of hope.
Right now, that mountain is the challenge of sharing my art and songs with the world, even when it feels like the world might be telling me I’m too old, or that the algorithms and popularity are stacked against me, or I face immovable physical challenges of pain and discouragement. Yet, faith still moves mountains! This song is my own personal reminder.
Despite the narrowing of the path, we can still see miracles happen. Even in my 50s, even in the face of adversity, there’s still room for hope, faith, and dreams that feel impossible to reach. It’s a testament to the golden thread of hope God has woven through my life—a thread that continues to guide me forward, even when the road gets rough.
